Our partner Catnic Urban has commissioned a new SolarSeam® bonding line at Tata Steel UK’s Shotton site, and it’s a milestone we’re proud to be part of.
SolarSeam® pairs Catnic’s standing seam steel roofing with BIPVco’s Flextron flexible solar laminate, manufactured at our factory in Newport, South Wales. Until now, the laminate was bonded to the roofing profile at a separate stage. The new line brings that step into Catnic’s own production flow, so SolarSeam® panels leave the factory fully assembled and electrically tested, ready to fit and ready to generate from day one.
For architects, contractors and housing providers, this means:
- Faster installation with less complexity on site
- Consistent, factory-controlled quality for every bonded panel
- A shorter supply chain, with less time in transit
- A roof that generates energy with no separate rack-mounted system
The result is a solar roofing system completely made in Britain, from the Flextron laminate made in Newport to the finished SolarSeam® panel produced at Shotton. It’s a Welsh-made, low-carbon roofing system built for the UK’s net zero ambitions.
We congratulate the Catnic Urban team on this investment and look forward to seeing more SolarSeam® roofs generating clean energy across the country.
