Sustainability at BIPVco

Building Solutions for a Changing World

The expectations placed on the built environment have never been higher. Buildings are no longer judged solely on their design, function, or cost. They are now expected to play a meaningful role in solving some of the most urgent challenges facing our infrastructure, communities, and planet.

At BIPVco, we see this moment not as a burden but as an opportunity. The buildings we design and construct today will shape the resilience of our energy systems, the sustainability of our cities, and the wellbeing of future generations.

Our role is simple in principle but powerful in impact: to help transform the built environment into a generator of clean energy rather than a consumer of it.

Responding to a New Era of Responsibility

Climate change, energy insecurity, and rapid urbanisation are placing unprecedented pressure on infrastructure and the way buildings perform. The built environment is responsible for a significant share of global energy consumption and carbon emissions, making it one of the most important sectors in the transition to a low-carbon future.

At BIPVco, we are actively addressing these challenges by embedding renewable energy directly into the fabric of buildings. Through Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV), façades and building envelopes become productive assets that generate clean electricity while maintaining architectural performance.

Creating a More Resilient Built Environment

Resilience today means more than durability. It means buildings that can adapt to changing environmental, economic, and energy conditions.

Our approach supports resilience in three key ways:

Energy resilience

Buildings equipped with integrated solar generation reduce dependence on centralised energy systems and help organisations manage long-term energy costs.

Infrastructure

Distributed renewable generation across the built environment reduces pressure on national grids and supports the transition to cleaner energy networks.

Environmental Resiliance

Lower operational emissions and smarter use of materials help reduce the long-term environmental impact of development.

Strengthening Our Own Sustainability - What We're Doing as a Business

While our products enable cleaner buildings, we recognise that true sustainability begins with how we operate as a company. At BIPVco we are continually improving our manufacturing processes, energy use, and supply chain to reduce environmental impact across our operations.

Our focus is on creating a more resilient business while contributing to a healthier planet.

Reducing Carbon Through Smarter Manufacturing

Efficiency in production plays an important role in reducing both energy consumption and carbon emissions. We are actively optimising our manufacturing processes to improve performance while minimising waste.

Recent improvements include:

  • Lamination cycle optimisation, reducing production time by at least 50%, improving efficiency while lowering energy use

  • Ongoing process improvements within our manufacturing line to reduce resource consumption and operational emissions

  • A commitment to zero waste to landfill, ensuring production materials are responsibly reused, recycled, or recovered wherever possible

These changes not only increase efficiency but also reduce the environmental footprint of every panel we produce.

Responsible Supply Chains

We are committed to strengthening the sustainability of our supply chain by continuously reviewing sourcing practices and working with partners who share our environmental values.

Our approach focuses on:

  • Improving transparency and sustainability within supplier networks

  • Reducing embedded carbon through smarter sourcing and logistics

  • Developing Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for all BIPVco products in the future, helping customers understand the full lifecycle impact of our system

Renewable Energy at Our Facilities

Reducing our reliance on external energy sources is a key part of our operational strategy.

To support this, BIPVco is installing an initial 80 kW solar array at our facilities, allowing us to generate renewable electricity on-site and lower the carbon intensity of our manufacturing operations.

We have also installed solar-powered EV charging points for staff and visitors, supported by just under 5 kW of solar capacity, helping encourage the transition toward cleaner transport.

Responsible End-of-Life Management

Sustainability extends beyond production. BIPVco supports responsible product lifecycle management through participation in WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) initiatives, ensuring our products are properly managed and recycled at end of life.

By considering the full lifecycle of our technology, we aim to support a circular and responsible solar industry.

Responsible Workplace Recycling

At BIPVco, we recognise that sustainability extends beyond the products we manufacture. As a Welsh manufacturer, we are committed to reducing waste across our workplace and production operations, making responsible use of resources and recycling wherever practical. We separate recyclable materials from general waste, encourage the reuse of materials where possible and work to minimise unnecessary waste throughout our manufacturing processes. By embedding responsible waste management into our everyday operations, we are continually looking for ways to reduce our environmental impact and support a more sustainable future for Welsh manufacturing.

Looking Ahead

The built environment will play a defining role in the global transition to low-carbon infrastructure.

At BIPVco, we are committed to continually improving both our technology and our operations, ensuring our business supports buildings that generate clean energy, reduce emissions and contribute positively to the world around them.

Sustainability is not a single milestone for us. It is a process of continuous improvement, innovation and responsibility
